Sara and her late father-in-law, Colin MacQueen

The sudden death of Colin MacQueen last November both shocked and saddened all who knew him.

Colin, who was 57, was an extremely popular driving instructor on Lewis, and was also a key figure in the local folk music scene.

So, in part to commemorate his life and also to raise money for charity, Colin’s daughter-in-law Sara MacQueen is to run her first ever half-marathon in Inverness next month.

Sara, who is married to Colin’s son Steven, said: “Colin ended up with pneumonia, and that led to other complications, so that’s why I have chosen to raise money for the British Lung Foundation.”

Having only ever previously completed a couple of 10K runs, the step-up to 13.1 miles is demanding, but Sara is now training at 10 miles, so she is confident ahead of the race which takes place on March 12.

“I have a friend doing it with me, so we are keeping each other going,” she said.

“Initially I thought that to raise £300 would be great, but I went over that some time ago so I am now hoping to raise £1,000.”

Sara has set up a just giving page on which you can sponsor her, available here.
