Reports of a potential ordnance on South Uist resulted in a Coastguard call out today (Monday 20 January).
Stornoway Coastguard Operations Centre paged the Benbecula Coastguard Team, who made their way to the beach near Askernish Golf Course at around 9am this morning.
The item was located, and confirmed to be an empty gas cylinder and has been removed for safe disposal.
The Benbecula Coastguard Team said on their Facebook page: "Our thanks to the first informant for the report.
"In an emergency at sea or on the coast, if you think someone may be in difficulty, if you see something unusual, always call the Coastguard - dial 999."
