Storm winds blew in the New Year, and the Isle of Barra is still feeling the effects today (Thursday January 2nd) as ferries are once again cancelled.

The Sound of Barra service (Ardmhor to Eriskay) is cancelled for the day and the Castlebay-Oban service has also been suspended, with a likelihood of further disruption on that route tomorrow.

South-westerly winds are forecast to continue strong until around 5pm today, when they will become north-westerly but continue strong. A further period of high west winds is expected tomorrow.

A longer-term forecast is for gales from Sunday onwards, with the Met Office predicting gusts up to 60mph for Monday and Tuesday.
