Young footballers will be kicking off a cup competition which pays tribute to one of the long-standing supporters of Point FC tomorrow (Saturday August 31st).

Under-13 teams will be at the astroturf pitch in Stornoway from 1pm for the qualifying rounds of the newly-christened Donnie Mata Graham cup.

The cup’s been re-named after 25 years as the Manor Dairies cup. Donnie Mata, who passed away earlier this year, was a milkman for Manor Dairies for the latter part of his working life, after working as a heating engineer and in the Merchant Navy.

Lewis and Harris Youth Football Association said: “After 25 years of the Manor Dairies Cup, it is fitting that our clubs will now start playing for the Donnie Mata Graham Cup. Thanks to the ongoing support of our sponsors we hope that the Donnie Mata Graham Cup will be competed for in many years to come.”
