A week-long celebration of heritage starts today (Friday August 30th), with the opening events in Galson Estate Trust’s Dùthchas Week.
Officially billed for August 31st to September 7th, the events spill over with a wealth of history, culture, music, food and drink and traditional skills.
Partner events are being organised by community groups throughout the area, including Comunn Eachdraidh Nis, Taigh Dhonnchaidh, the Cross Inn and Ness Social Club.
Tonight’s ‘party in the tent’ will in fact be inside Ness Social Club, due to yesterday’s high winds, but will still feature the return of Nollie, tonight accompanied by Graham Maclennan on box and the Lewis and Harris Youth Pipe Band.
During next week Taigh Dhonnchaidh will offer a night in the ceilidh house on Monday, Cross Stores demonstrate how they make their famous black pudding and sausages on Wednesday and Friday (10 places only at each event) and Comunn Eachdraidh Nis invite you to join them at a tea party with the Lord Lieutenant of the Isles on Thursday.
Other events include a pub quiz, barbecue, a classic car treasure hunt and an open day at Air an Lot in Ness. The full programme of events is available at https://www.duthchas.com/schedule.
