Traffic heading out of Stornoway towards Back and Barvas may expect delays as the road remains one-way only past the scene of a traffic accident this morning (Friday July 26th). Around midday, traffic queues had backed as far as the Manor roundabout.
The main road between Laxdale Lane and the Cearns junction was closed for more than an hour this morning following a collision between two vehicles.
The accident happened at 9.19am, when a car heading into Stornoway was in collision with a Maclennan’s coach on a cruise charter.
No-one was injured in the incident.
The coach was carrying cruise passengers heading up towards the Westside for a scenic tour. The visitors were among five coachloads who had arrived into Stornoway on board the MV Corinthian this morning. The crash left both vehicles in an undriveable condition. Police were quickly on scene and all traffic was stopped while the car was removed by a Hughsons recovery vehicle. The visitors were transferred to another coach.
A spokesman for Maclennan’s told welovestornoway.com: “The passengers were put on to another coach and, although there was a short delay, they continued on with their tour.”
Police remain on scene and the traffic was stopped with diversions via adjacent routes while the extensively damaged car was removed by a recovery vehicle. Stornoway police said the coach is expected to be moved later.
