Doors will be thrown open at Stornoway Masjid tomorrow afternoon (Saturday June 15th) as the community celebrates one year since the building opened for the first time.
Stornoway Mosque was opened after a massive community-driven operation to refurbish and prepare a derelict building, creating a new place of worship for the islands’ Muslim community.
In the 12 months since, the building has seen events, celebrations and regular meetings for prayer, as well as open afternoons such as this, to welcome the wider community in.
Tomorrow’s anniversary party is a joint celebration, with an Eid party celebrating the end of Ramadan. Food and conversation, soft drinks and party bags for children are to be offered, together with a chance for those who have not seen the Masjid to visit and have a look and ask any questions.
The doors will be open between 3 and 5pm and everyone is welcome to come along and join the celebration.
