The first Lewis and Harris Local Industry and Jobs Fair is being held today (Tuesday March 26th) in Ionad Spòrs Lèodhais/Lewis Sports Centre.
And SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar Alasdair Allan is encouraging constituents to attend.
Hosted by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Developing the Young Workforce Outer Hebrides, the first ever Stornoway Industry and Jobs Fair is the ideal opportunity to find out more about opportunities open to all across the Western Isles.
The event runs from 1.45pm to 5.00pm and will allow constituents to meet with big-name employers, local businesses and careers experts as well as try out hands-on exhibits, speak with experts across a variety of fields, from telecommunications to engineering, and get advice and support from SDS’s trained advisers.
Alasdair Allan MSP said:“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to meet with industry representatives from across the Western Isles and beyond and draw on their knowledge of the various opportunities and progression routes available locally.”
“SDS are to be commended in the way they have responded to employer feedback requesting support in encouraging young people to take advantage of the many employment opportunities available locally.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in the employment opportunities available, including apprenticeships and other work-based learning roles, to attend the Jobs Fair.”
One of the companies at the fair will be Intermedia Services (Stornoway) Ltd, parent company of EVENTS newspaper, SignPrint, and welovestornoway.com
