Police Scotland have now confirmed the identity of the woman who died in an incident at Nisabost beach on the Isle of Harris.

She was Agnes Proudhon-Smith, aged 50, who came from the London area.

The incident happened on the morning of Wednesday, March 20.

A full emergency was called after Stornoway Coastguard control centre received a 999 call from a member of the public, reporting a woman in difficulty in the sea.

The coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Stornoway, coastguard rescue teams from Scalpay and Tarbert, and the Leverburgh RNLI lifeboat were sent to the scene at full speed and the woman was recovered from the water by the helicopter.

Police were called to the area around 8.25am and the woman was taken by helicopter to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, where she was pronounced dead.

Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident, although there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.
