The UK Meteorological Office has this morning (Thursday January 31st) updated a weather warning for snow and ice.
The update now means that only Lewis falls into the extensive warning area, with the rest of the Western Isles, south of the Clisham, outwith the area of concern.
The forecast is for snow and ice between 6pm tonight and 12 noon on Friday, with the chief forecaster saying: “Showers will develop during Thursday night and continue into Friday morning falling as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow.
"Snow accumulations of 1-3 cm are possible in places by Friday morning. Ice is likely to form on some untreated surfaces.”
Western Isles Weather (https://www.facebook.com/WesternIslesWeather/) said that conditions were set to remain wintry over the weekend, and logged recorded temperatures overnight between Wednesday and Thursday as the coldest for several years in the islands. Stornoway airport recorded -3.3ºC while in Breasclete and Garenin -4.1ºC was reported.
