There was sporting success for three of Lewis’s young athletes over the weekend, in athletics and swimming championships held on the mainland.

Connor Maclean earned himself a bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the Scottish Senior Indoor Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Saturday (January 26th).

Just three days before he had been in Sheffield, at a British Milers’ Club event at the National Indoor Athletics Centre, where he posted a personal best and gained a ranking of third in Scotland.

Connor is currently studying electrical and electronic engineering at Glasgow University and now runs for Kilbarchan AAC, but will hopefully be competing for the Western Isles in the Island Games in Gibraltar in July.

Also setting her sights on Gibraltar is Eilidh Macleod, who was at National Indoor Senior Championships on her full senior debut.

She narrowly missed out on the 400m final with a really strong run in the heats, which ranked her in the top 10 in Scotland. Four hours later she ran an excellent 27.03 in her 200m heat. Eilidh is currently studying in Dundee.

Meanwhile Nicolson Institute pupil Isla Budge was in the pool at the Scottish Schools Championships, where she took a bronze medal in the girls 17-19 years 100 metre freestyle race.

Isla is pictured (left) at the medal presentation and Eilidh on the track, while Connor is pictured at his U17 win at the National Cross-country Championships four years ago.

All three are current or former members of Stornoway Running and Athletics Club (SRAC) which supplied the pictures.
