Stornoway Rugby Club junior teams were away on the mainland at the weekend (Saturday December 8th), with the under 14s and under 16s travelling to Invergordon to take on Ross Sutherland.

The U14’s had a cracking game, full of action, winning 65-21 against Ross Sutherland. U16’s had a couple of players missing and were caught cold, going 17-0 down within the first 10 minutes. A further three tries and a conversion from Ross Sutherland left the half time score at 34-0, but a much-improved performance in the second half at least kept the scoreline there.

A club spokesman said: “Great effort from all 35 boys involved. Thanks to Ross for the hospitality. Thanks also to our two junior sponsors - Engebrets Ltd and DR Macleod.”

Meanwhile the senior team were at home to Aberdeenshire on Saturday, welcoming the visitors to Bayhead for a 2pm kick-off in the Tennents Caledonia North Division 3. A hard-fought and bruising encounter saw the visitors take the win, with a final scoreline of 7-31.

Stornoway are next due to play in the league on January 5th, when they’re away to Kinloss Eagles RUFC.
