A team from the Isle of Harris Distillery are heading off the island on Thursday (September 20th) in the hope of coming home with a clutch of awards for the Tarbert business.
The distillery is a finalist in three categories of the Scottish gin awards, to be announced on Thursday evening at Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow.
The company, which prides itself on being a social business, is in line for the Scottish gin distillery of the year award as well as Scottish gin destination of the year. Isle of Harris Gin itself is also shortlisted in the London dry gin of the year category.
The shortlisted finalists include 46 different companies and 80 varieties of gin, all tested by 22 tasters including master distillers and professors in distilling. Isle of Harris gin is one of three island tipples in the running – Isle of Skye distillers and Orkney distilling are also in contention.
Travelling to Glasgow are husband and wife team Billy and Sandra Fraser – distiller and the company’s main tour guide – together with retail manager Alexander Macleod from Scalpay and assistant administrator Ruth Macleod, social media assistant Shona Maclennan and John Sutton, dispatch supervisor.
