A dog barking on a cliff ledge in Swordale caused an emergency response on Saturday evening (August 11th).

Stornoway Coastguard were called when passers-by heard continuous barking from the cliff, raising fears that someone may have fallen or become trapped.

Stornoway Coastguard volunteers were tasked at 6.35pm and located a golden retriever on the ledge just below the cliff-edge.

They removed the dog, which was reunited with its owner using the phone number on its dog tag – owners reported it had been missing from home for some time.

A further search to check that there was no other cause for concern was made before the team stood down.
