Sixty years on…it was in 1958 at the age of 15, that 16 pupils enrolled in the first pre-nursing class taught at The Nicolson Institute. After two years study they all went their separate ways to train at different hospitals on the mainland.

But six of the original group - all now retired - live on the island and meet up regularly – including a special reunion 10 years ago (when the banner seen in the photograph above was created.)

To celebrate 60 years since the very start of their nursing careers, two of the original class travelled over from the mainland to join the others for dinner at the Cabarfeidh Hotel last night (Friday August 11th) and reminisce. Sadly three of the original 16 have passed away.
