A 77-year-old woman has been charged with careless driving after a single-vehicle accident in Newlands, Shulishader yesterday morning (Thursday August 9th).

The accident happened at 9.25am in heavy rain. The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics after sustaining slight impact injuries from the deployment of the airbag and seat-belt but declined hospital treatment.

Police directed traffic away from the area for a short time until the vehicle was cleared and emergency vehicles had left the scene. The woman will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Drugs arrest in North Lewis

A search for drugs resulted in man being arrested and charged under the misuse of drugs act on Thursday (August 9th).Police used a warrant to search a domestic address in north Lewis, resulting in the discovery of a quantity of illegal substances, described as for personal use. The 37-year-old man was charged and has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Appeal after car vandalised

Police are appealing for information after a car had its passenger wing mirror smashed while parked in Stornoway town centre.  The car, which belongs to a resident of Point Street, was parked on the street between August 4th and 6th and the damage was caused at some time during those days.  Anyone who may have information on the incident is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number, 101.
