People living with cancer are being invited to an action planning day in Harris, where issues causing concern to patients and their families will be discussed.

The ‘Cancer Care Discussion’ has been planned by Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative (WICCI) and Macmillan cancer support engagement team, and is to be held at Talla na Mara on Saturday September 1st from 10am to 2pm.

On the agenda are some of the most pressing topics affecting people living with cancer in the islands, including the current issue of patient and escort travel, as well as off-island treatment developments.

WICCI development manager Helen Sandison said: “This event aims to bring together the support organisations and those who have been through cancer treatment from across the Western Isles to discuss current cancer care, patient travel issues and after care support.

“We hope it will be a relaxed and informal day, with workshops for discussion leading to some action points which we hope to then use for future cancer care planning in the Western Isles.”

The day is free to attend and there will be support with travel costs, ferry travel and overnight accommodation for anyone who needs it.
