Leverburgh’s new lifeboat RNLB Stella and Humfrey Berkeley was called to St Kilda on Thursday afternoon (January 17th) after Stornoway Coastguard answered a call for assistance from the passenger vessel Enchanted Isle at 2.22pm.

The Sea Harris crew had been dropping passengers at Village Bay on the main island of Hirta when they experience a problem with the vessel’s electronic throttle and were unable to re-start the engine.

Leverbugh’s RNLI crew launched at 2.50pm and tackled a challenging sea swell to arrive in Village Bay two hours later.

The Lifeboat took the casualty vessel, with two crew aboard, under tow and began the long journey back to Leverburgh, arriving safely back in Harris at 11.40pm after nine hours at sea.

Leverburgh RNLI lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service again within an hour.
